The Gija and Miriwoong people, the Traditional Owners of the land on which the Argyle Diamond Mine operates, each have their own variation of “The Barramundi Dreaming”, this beautiful story tells of how the Argyle diamonds came into existence. Enjoy both versions of the story here at The Argyle Diamond Origin Story: The Barramundi Dreaming.
Miriwoong is classified as a critically endangered language. With only a few fluent speakers alive, this special language may be lost forever.
To stop this from happening, The Mirima Dawang Woorlab-gerring Language and Culture Centre (MDWg) was established. Its mission is to:
“…preserve, analyse and record the language and culture of the Miriwoong and Gajirrabeng people, the original inhabitants of the lands around Kununurra.”
Help keep Argyle’s original language alive by donating to the Mirima Dawang Woorlab-gerring Language and Culture Centre.
